Overview

About the committee

The APPNA Young Physicians Committee (YPC) serves as a bridge between APPNA Central and the next generation of physicians — pre-medical students, medical students, residents, fellows and early-career physicians. It is dedicated to supporting young physicians as they navigate medical education, residency applications, career development, visa processes, mentorship and professional growth.

Over the years the role of APPNA YPC has expanded significantly. Today the committee provides guidance and resources across multiple stages of a physician's journey — from the road to medical school to residency training and early-career transition. Through dedicated volunteers, mentors and members, YPC creates meaningful opportunities for young physicians and helps identify future leaders within APPNA.

What they do

The primary objective of the Committee of Young Physicians (YPC) is to empower medical students, local and international medical graduates, and early-career physicians of Pakistani descent. YPC guides, mentors, and supports young physicians as they navigate the highly competitive transition into the United States healthcare system, while also introducing them to active professional leadership roles within the larger APPNA organization.

Residency mentorship & match support

Mentorship and guidance for medical students, local and international medical graduates, and early-career physicians preparing for the U.S. residency application and match process.

Observership program

Connecting students and graduates with clinical learning opportunities that help them gain exposure to the U.S. healthcare system and strengthen their professional development.

Visa advocacy & transition support

Guiding young physicians through transition-related challenges, including visa processes, professional requirements, and key steps involved in entering U.S. training and practice.

Educational webinars & career guidance

Webinars and career-focused sessions designed to help students, IMGs, residents, fellows, and early-career physicians understand U.S. medical education, residency pathways, and career planning.

Scholarships & loan programs

Scholarship and loan initiatives that help reduce barriers for young physicians during training, residency preparation, and early career development.

Scholarly Excellence

YPC promotes scholarly growth by organizing Research Day activities at major APPNA meetings and supporting young physicians through research presentation opportunities and research travel awards.
